The SME Technology Development Council was initiated by SME Chamber of India to provide a platform for small and medium enterprises to tap opportunities for acquisition of technology and establishing business collaboration on a global level.

SMEs play a pivotal role in the success of the Indian economy due to their ability to exploit new technologies and to respond quickly to changing market needs. Due to SMEs' limited resources and relative inability to absorb the costs and risks associated with in-house technology development, they must often utilise the process of technology transfer to take advantage of the benefits gained by technology and innovation. SME Technology Development Council of India gives high priority to supporting SMEs and creation of new ventures as well as the removal of barriers in the way of their rapid growth.

SME Technology Development Council is a private organisation and does not have any affiliations or associations with any Government or Semi Government agencies. This is a division of India International Trade Centre (IITC-India).
