Sindustry has undergone a huge transition from being self-reliant during the 1960s to become a strong competitor at the present global platform. India has embarked on its technological innovation, intellectual property rights, goods and services to compete with the international market and proved its mettle.

The views were expressed by the Prof. Samir K. Brahmachari , Secretary, DSIR & Director General, Council for Scientific and Industrial research (CSIR), in a workshop on 'Technology Exports from India' in New Delhi recently. The workshop was organized with objective to assess and understand the efforts being made by Indian industries and institutions towards exports of technologies and services.

Rural Innovation
Drawing attention towards the base of our pyramid Prof. Brahmachari said, “The future business model should be evolved keeping in mind the section of the population at the bottom of the pyramid. Time has come for the right balance between business and socialism and business needs to be driven with more rural innovation.” Talking to SME World, Prof. Brahmachari said, “We are low innovative than 'innovation index', as intellectual property data says that. But rural innovation is so much. In rural India there are lots innovations. Even rickshawwalas now arranges to adjust eight persons. Isn't this an innovation? Scooterwala carries five persons and even then puts cylinder in his vehicle. Isn't this an innovation? India is not poor innovation country, it very rich innovation country.”
K. T. Chacko, Director, IIFT lauded the efforts of Prof. Brahmachari and said that his leadership and drive to transform India through cutting edge technologies had won the admiration of the entire country.

During the workshop a 'Compendium on Technology Exports' was also released with a view to disseminate its findings among trade and industry, chambers of commerce, Indian and foreign embassies etc. This compendium has been prepared by The Centre for International Trade in Technology (CITT) of the IIFT in association with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. The report covers exports of 367 surveyed companies.
