New York, NY; - Jan Berkowitz, a 25 year clean energy leader, is promoting the benefits of the In-Situ Coal Gasification Technique to encourage green behavior in business.

In-situ means "in place", and refers to recovery techniques at the location of the energy source. Instead of extracting coal in the traditional manner via coal mining and coal handling facilities, ISCG allows for gasification of coal deep underground in its original coal seam.

Injection and production wells are drilled from the surface in order to access the coal at its natural location. The coal is then efficiently converted in-place in its original seam via a high pressure gasification process. The gas then flows to the surface and is processed in a conventional gas plant to produce fuel for electrical power generation or used to produce other products.

"The benefits of this process are numerous," says Jan Berkowitz. Gasification provides a clean, flexible and reliable way of turning fossil fuels into clean energy. Traditional combustion technology creates air pollution and utilizes a lot of water in the process. Gasification, on the other hand, explains Jan Berkowitz, allows for a reduction in air pollutants entering the atmosphere because the gas is cleaned before combustion. When used for electricity production, gasification provides both environmental benefits and cost benefits, according to Jan Berkowitz.

"We are fully aware of the damage that traditional combustion has on our environment," notes Jan Berkowitz. "It is my intention to inform companies of the environmental and cost benefits of newly emerging green processes; by utilizing greener technology, companies can help improve the environment and their bottom line."

Gasification-based systems benefits include: air emissions reduction, decreased water usage, cost-effectively capturing harmful carbon dioxide pollutants before they are vented into our atmosphere and clean power generation.
