JSW Steel's July production up 4 pc

NEW DELHI: JSW Steel, the country's largest private sector steel maker by domestic capacity, on Thursday said its output in July rose by 4 per cent to 5.20 lakh tonnes on the back of rising demand for its products.

"JSW Steel reported a growth of 4 per cent in crude steel production for July 2010 compared to that of corresponding month in the last fiscal," the company said in a statement here. 

The Sajjan Jindal-led firm had recorded an output of 5.01 lakh tonnes in the year-ago period. 

Moreover, the company said its production of flat steel products -- consumed primarily by automobile and consumer durable industry -- in July rose by 35 per cent to 4.08 lakh tonnes over the same period last year. 

The firm had produced 3.03 lakh tonnes of flat steel products in July 2009. 

Also, JSW Steel saw output of its long steel products -- used by infrastructure and construction companies -- rising by about 43 per cent to 90,000 tonnes in July 2010 over the same month a year ago when it had produced 63,000 tonnes of such products.
