Yucatan Real Estate – Food Event Offers Expats Opportunity to Learn Local Culture

One of the most attractive points of Yucatan real estate is the rich cultural heritage which residents can experience directly as a part of day to day life. One very important aspect of this heritage, food, was recently celebrated in an event to promote cultural values focusing on the cuisine of Yucatan.

The event, the city of Merida’s first Cultural Congress of Food and Beverage was held on Friday September 30 and Saturday October 1.

 

This meeting, organized by the city of Merida by the Department of Culture was free and was aimed at everyone, from students of gastronomy, hoteliers, restaurateurs and people in the tourism sector to the local population and expats interested in learning more about the area’s culinary culture.

 

Although exact numbers have not yet been revealed, the event’s attendance is expected to have reached five thousand people for two days.

 

The goal is to present the food and drinks that are made in Merida as an integral part of the area’s culture for average resident to be aware of the characteristics, processing, product and preparation.

 

At the conference attendees participated in a series of presentations ranging from Yucatan cuisine to food safety measures, as well as know how to prepare various dishes and snacks, and information on food nutritional.

 

Yucatan food is internationally recognized, so that the area's culinary traditions can be passed on to the general public.

 

The event coordinator said that in this way the event promotes the Yucatan culture and products.  Many Americans and Canadians who choose to live in Yucatan also like to become self-made experts in local history and culture to share the info with their friends.  Participation in events like this offer a very concrete way to for them to do so.
