EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Hollywood Actress Sheena Sujan
Posted for Chopra Entertainment by Neil Chopra on October 11th 2011 and filled under Entertainment (General)

The star of the new movie California University spills on her life, the entertainment industry and what it takes to make it in Hollywood!

Everyone is buzzing about the beautiful, and talented up and coming actress- Sheena Sujan. Lucky for you, we got to chat with the star of California University, which is set to release next summer.

Chopra Entertainment: Can you please tell us what made you decide to become an actress? Was it something you have always wanted to pursue?

Sheena Sujan: Funny enough, I didn't grow up saying that I wanted to become an actress. I guess I would say that I fell into it [acting] by accident. I have always had a huge fear of public speaking. So, I decided to take an acting class to help me get over my fear and get me out of my comfort zone. And I ended up falling in love with the craft.

Chopra Entertainment: What do you love about acting?

Sheena Sujan: I love being able to take on the identity of different people. My last project was a web series produced by the UC Irvine Digital Arts program. I played the lead character [Parvita Singh]. She was a really shy girl that always did exactly what her parents told her to do. And my character in California University [Rita Thomas] is the complete opposite. She is a spoiled, self-obsessed, rich- sorority girl. She is nothing like me, so it's really fun and kind of intimidating to play a character like that.

Chopra Entertainment: You said that you have always loved performing. We know that you grew up ice-skating. Can you please elaborate on that?

Sheena Sujan: Yes, I grew up a competitive figure skater. From the age of 4 to about the age of 18, I competed in several competitions including a National level competition where I took home the gold medal. But unfortunately, I sustained a back injury, which no longer allows me to skate competitively. Not to mention, I'm not 14 years old anymore, and figure skating is definitely one of those sports that has a time limit.

Chopra Entertainment: Do you feel that it's hard being of Indian nationality trying to make it in Hollywood? Have you ever considered going back to India to pursue an acting career in Bollywood?

Sheena Sujan: I think that it's hard to break into the entertainment industry no matter what your nationality is. But if you work hard, I feel that anything is possible! As for Bollywood, I have considered going back to try my luck in India. I was born in Mumbai and I have a lot of family and friends who live there. It would be nice to go back to see them and see what opportunities arise.

Chopra Entertainment: You were recently featured in an article in the India-West newspaper. The headline read, "Brainy Sheena Sujan Carving a Niche in Hollywood." How important is education to you?

Sheena Sujan: Education is really important to me! Due to my figure skating, I was fortunate enough to start going to college at an early age. I believe I was 14 years old when I took my first college class. And because I was so determined, I was able to transfer to UCLA and graduate with my bachelor's degree in history at the age of 19.

Chopra Entertainment: Where would we find you when you aren't busy filming? Do you enjoy going out to nightclubs and parties like so many other young Hollywood starlets? Do you have a special someone?

Sheena Sujan: When I'm not filming, I love to spend time with my family and friends. I'm not much of a "party girl" so you probably wouldn't see me at a nightclub. I'm actually pretty boring. I usually spend my days off reading, going to the movies and playing with my dog Naala. And I don't have a boyfriend right now. I'm enjoying being single and seeing where my career takes me.

Chopra Entertainment: Sheena thank you so much for chatting with us. We are really looking forward to seeing you in the upcoming film California University. What's the best way for your fans to contact you? Do you have a Facebook or twitter page?

Sheena Sujan: I recently got a facebook www.facebook.com/sheenasujan and a twitter page www.twitter.com/sheenasujan. I love getting comments and messages from my fans, so that is a great way to contact me.
